Several weeks ago Hubby went to Dinosaur Valley State Park with some friends to ride the mountain bike trails. Since then, Woody has been begging to go see the wonders Daddy described. So, this past weekend we took a day trip to visit the land of the dinosaurs. (All of the pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them.)
According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Dinosaur Valley State Park contains some of the best preserved dinosaur tracks in the world.or as Woody calls it, the long neck dinosaur.
so to view the tracks you have to cross the Paluxy River.

Under a beautiful Texas sky, limestone cliffs overlook the Paluxy
~ the river water is crystal clear and very chilly.

This is what really gets the kids’ attention – life size replicas of the dinosaurs – the two fiberglass models; a 70-foot Apatosaurus and a 45-foot Tyrannosaurus Rex, originally built for a World’s Fair in the 60′s.

Near the park entrance is a casting of footprints originally found in the riverbed.
These are from the Acrocanthosaurus and the Pleurocoelus.

How’s that for a size comparison?!?
Woody’s foot vs. dino foot

The dino print is big enough for Woody to curl up and take a nap in!
The area near the park is full of so many family friendly activities. We can hardly wait to go back. There is so much to see and do – we can visit the Creation Museum for a Christian perspective on the dinosaurs, Fossil Rim Wildlife Park to see all sorts of animals, The Promise will be showing again next fall and I’ve heard it’s just wonderful. Of course, I’d like to go back to Country Woods Inn because that’s where Hubby and I were married nearly five years ago.

i keep forgetting about this place and how much fun the kids would have! thanks for the reminder and great pics!
These are great photos and great links, Tanya. I showed them to our son who thought they were really “cooooll!”
