When your husband asks you to make him a German Chocolate Cake (from scratch) for his birthday, research through umpty-billion German Chocolate Cake recipes.   Make a big to do about the difficulty of each recipe.   Right before he leaves the house on the day of his birthday, pull out the fancy mixer and make comments about how you will be spending your day.   Once he leaves, sprinkle the kitchen counters with a dusting of flour and cocoa powder.   For good measure, toss a bit of shredded coconut around, too.

Then call the local Bavarian Bakery and order up an exquisite looking German Chocolate Cake.   Make sure to pick it up and rush the little beauty back home.    Place said beauty on cake plate.   Await return of the birthday boy.

Prepare for the oooohs and aaaahs.   Receive shower of hugs and kisses when husband returns.   Say a silent prayer of thanks for the Bavarian baker.   Clean kitchen.

And that my friends, is how to knock the socks off your husband. :)

  1. Brilliant! I don’t think my husband would be fooled, tho….

  2. You should bring this technique to the Food Network!

  3. LOL! That’s the only way I’d be able to knock my hubby’s socks off through my cooking/baking!

I hope he had a wonderful birthday!

  4. How funny! If it were my hubby, I’d tell him that Betty Crocker started the cake, I’m just finishing it!

    Hope his birthday was wonderful!

  5. You forgot the most important element to fool him: You need to have a ton of dishes in the sink. I know when my wife has made something because there are dishes piled everywhere in the kitchen [smile].

Hope he had a fantastic birthday!
