As usual, I give myself until January 15th to finalize my goals/resolutions for the year.  As I was figuring out my goals for this year, I thought I should do a quick review of the goals set for last year.

Here’s the list from 2008.

Spiritual Goals:
Serve somebody – find a ministry where I can serve, and maybe actually enjoy it. Did it.  I now help with Kids Check-in for Sunday School, host weekly Small Group ministry, co-lead for Small Group Ministry.
Read Bible or do a study 4x’s a week. I seriously need to work on this.  Some months I did good, others…not so much.
Establish a daily quiet time/prayer time. Same as above.
Pray daily for grandfather’s salvation. Pretty good with this one, but not 100%.

Reading Goals:
Read and report on at least one book a month  I didn’t come anywhere near this goal.
Read Eats Shoots and Leaves.  Did it and did a review to prove it.
Read Amish Grace: How Forgiveness Transcended Tragedy.  Ditto from above.
Read the new John Grisham novel. Ditto from above.
Read a Swindoll character profile – Moses, Ester, David, Paul, Elijah, or Joseph. Started the book on David but haven’t finished it yet.
Read a Marriage Book. Nope.
Read a Parenting Book. Nope.

Blogging Goals:
Investigate paid postings.  Did it, felt it wasn’t right for me.
Investigate changing blog template, possibly hiring a consultant to design one. Did it, and even bought a domain. :)

Pictures/Scrapbook Goals:
Organize/scan old photos and slides.  HA! HA! HA! Didn’t even come close, AND I inherited another ton of photos from my grandmother.
Use scrapbook software to complete 2006-2007 photos. HA! Not even close!

Photography Goals:
Take a basic photography course.  I can’t believe I still haven’t done this. But, I have learned alot more about photography.
Take at least 10 pictures a week.  I didn’t keep count, but I’m pretty sure I did this judging by the number of pictures in my photo directory.

Photoshop Goals:
Take a basic Photoshop class so I can learn how to utilize the awesome software.  I still haven’t taken an official class, but I did learn quite a bit from some video lessons on youtube.

Hospitality Goals:
Have at least one family over for lunch or dinner each month. I think we came close to 50% for this one.

Family Goals:
Take at least one family vacation this year, maybe even Disney World. Yea!  We did WDW and Cocoa beach in February.
Resume following the family schedule. We did this, but I lost all motivation in August when Granny and Aunt Jo died.
Establish a game night once a week.  Not even close, but we did play more games this year than we have previously.

Financial Goals:
Develop (and follow) plan to increase savings account by 100-150%. Did it.

Health Goals:
Continue and complete switch to organic dairy and produce.  Did it, except for coffee creamer. I just can’t stand the soy based creamers. Yuk.
Move that body!  Ha! Yeah, right…

House Goals:
Paint entryway/foyer. Nope.
Paint and decorate boys bath. Got it decorated, but still haven’t painted.
Paint and decorate Woody’s room. Done!
Paint and decorate Tigger’s room. This was started in the summer, but I’m still not done.  The walls have been painted, and most of the room is decorated, but I still have several mural pieces to finish painting.
Get back to and stick to household blessing schedule. Did it until August…
Organize the office. Did it!
Shred/discard old paperwork. Did it!
File necessary paperwork. Did it!

 School Goals:
Have Woody complete K curriculum. Did it!
Investigate First Grade Science, Social Studies, the Arts and other subjects besides the three r’s. Did it!

Looks like I completed a little less than half of what I set out to do.  I really think if I hadn’t had such big losses, I would have done better.  As it stands, I think I did okay last year.  I am proud of my successes, and I’ve made peace with the things left undone.

Here’s the 2009 list.

Spiritual Goals:
Read Bible or do a study 4x’s a week.
Establish a daily quiet time/prayer time.
Continue to pray daily for grandfather’s salvation.
Give my time, money and self to those in need.

Have Woody complete 1st grade curriculum.
Get Tigger started with K curriculum.
Actually participate in local homeschool group’s Park Day, instead of just thinking about it…

So, there it is.  Last year versus this year.

If you have any words of wisdom or tips that might help me to complete some of this stuff, please do!

  1. i am working to update mine too! you really did great-you did something instead of nothing!

  2. What a great idea to look back on last year’s goals. Keep up the good work! I’ve read Swindoll’s book on Esther, and thouroughly enjoyed it. I’m reading an interesting one right now– it’s called Sarah Laughed. Very interesting premise, I encourage you to read it! (Sorry, can’t remember the author at the moment…)

  3. P.S. The Love and Logic parenting books are great!
