 July 25, 2008  Friday Feast 15 Responses »

The Chef at the usual place for Fridays Feast is having some technical difficulties, so I decided that I’d come up with my own Texas Style menu of questions (and answers) for this week. I know ya’ll are just sittin on the edge of your seat now, aren’t you? Or should I say ain’t you? Whatever, here’s the feast…

Appetizer: When was the last time you had some bar-b-que?
A week ago Monday, had a date with Hubby at Spring Creek BBQ while the boys were at VBS. Yum!

Soup: How many pairs of cowboy boots do you own?
Two. One pair of navy blue ropers, one pair of white lace-up ropers that I wore with my wedding dress.

Salad: Finish this sentence: Mommas, don’t let your babies __________.
Mommas, don’t let your babies eat chili.

Main Course: Name a song that makes you think of Texas.
Well considering I’ve lived in Texas for most of my life, there’s whole slew of them – but my absolute favorite would be my dad singing “San Antonio Rose.” When I was in college and later when I lived out of state, I used to listen to that cassette tape over and over again whenever I was homesick. Now, I can close my eyes and hear him sing – and while Bob Wills may still be the king, my daddy sure can give him a good run for his money.

Dessert: Cowboy hats – Black or White?
We all know that according to the Western movies, the good guys always wear white… And I like good guys.

Now, ya’ll go have a glass of sweet tea and have a great weekend!

Appetizer: When was the last time you had your hair cut/trimmed?
I’m in the midst of growing out a short cut, so the last time I actually paid someone for a hair cut was probably December or January. The last bang trim, I did myself about 3 weeks ago.

Soup: Name one thing you miss about being a child.
Spending time in the summer with my grandparents. Both my matenal and paternal grandparents had gardens, so I remember spending time with them in the garden harvesting all sorts of fruits and vegetables. My paternal grandparents lived in a small East Texas town, and I remember walking a few blocks down to Aunt Olene’s store to get hand-sliced bolonga, for the best bologna sandwiches ever made. My maternal grandparents spent lots of time traveling through the country in their RV. During the summers, I was lucky enough to be able to ride along with them as they traveled through most of the Eastern United States. I remember being in Massachusetts and having Boston Baked Beans that were cooked in the ground. I remember feeling like I would be carried away by the mosquitos in Minnesota. I remember Grandpa teasing about the pronunciation of BaHaba (Bar Harbor) when we were in Maine.

Salad: Pick one: butter, margarine, olive oil.
Butter.

Main Course: If you could learn another language, which one would you pick, and why?
Spanish would make the most sense, considering I’m in Texas but I really have no desire. However, I would love to learn Latin and Hebrew.

Dessert: Finish this sentence: In 5 years I expect to be…
In five years I expect to be – somewhere near Banff, Alberta in the middle of our family tour through North America.

Appetizer: What is the weather like today where you live?
HOT! HOT! HOT! Clear and sunny – high near 100.

Soup: On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how career-minded are you?
To have a job/career outside the home, a 0. To maintain my job/career as a stay-at-home Mommy, 10.

Salad: What type of window coverings do you have in your home? Blinds, curtains, shutters, etc.?
Almost all windows have blinds, some also have curtains or valances.

Main Course: Name something that instantly cheers you up.
The post I read the other day at Rocks In My Dryer, when Shannon mentioned being on a plane next to an older guy who had never flown before – his statement of “Wheeee, Doggie” upon take off cracked me up. I still giggle when I think about it.

Dessert: How many times do you hit the snooze button on a typical morning?
Goodness, I used to be horrible about the snooze button and hit it 3 or 4 times. Now, I pretty much wake up when I need to, but if I do set the alarm, I almost always allow myself time for 1 snooze.

Appetizer: Do you consider yourself to be an optimist or a pessimist?
I’d like to say I’m an optimist, but deep down I have this sense of always “waiting for the other shoe to drop” so I know I’m really a pessimist.

Soup: What is your favorite color of ink to write with?
Now, I use whatever is handy. But when I had a desk job, my favorite was purple ball point ink. Not purple gel, not purple felt tip, but purple ball point pen ink.

Salad: How often do you get a manicure or pedicure? Do you do them yourself or go to a salon and pay for them?
Manicures – don’t do them. Takes too much time to keep them up.
Pedicures – Um, let’s see. I got a pedicure for my birthday in January. I got another one about two months ago, so it’s probably time to call the salon and schedule another one.

Main Course: Have you ever won anything online? If so, what was it?
Does a husband count? I didn’t “win” him but I met him online… Other than that – no, I haven’t won a thing.

Dessert: In which room in your house do you keep your home computer?
It floats back and forth between the living room and the office, with an occasional trip to the kitchen when I need a recipe.

Appetizer When you drink soda/pop/coke, do you prefer to drink it from the bottle, a can, or after pouring it into a cup?
If it’s cold, I’ll drink it from the container. If it’s room temp, over ice in a glass.

Soup What television show are you willing to stay up late to watch?
Lately, Hubby and I have been staying up late watching Tivo-ed episodes of NCIS.

Salad Name one person, place, or thing you think of as brilliant.
I love the photography of Ansel Adams. Stunning landscapes in black and white.

Main Course Would you be willing to work 4 10-hour days instead of 5 8-hour days in order to save gas?
If I had a desk job, heck yes! I’d be willing to do 3 13+hour days. Better yet, telecommute!

Dessert If you were a superhero, what would you call yourself?
I’d call myself Tanya, but you can call me Your Royal Highness.

I missed posting a feast last week due to being out of town. Ordinarily, I’d just skip it – but… last week’s Main Course was about a subject near and dear to my heart, so I went ahead and did two Feasts this week. Enjoy!

FF191
Appetizer What is the nearest big city to your home?

Fort Worth, Texas

Soup On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how well do you keep secrets?

10. Although we have a “no secrets” rule in our house. (You can have surprises, but not secrets.)

Salad Describe your hair (color, texture, length).

Color is dark brown, with lots of little specks of gray peeking through. Might be time to go find that color-in-a-bottle thing. It is straight as straight can be, not even a hint of a curl unless it’s touched with a curling iron or blow dryer. I’m in the process of growing out a short cut. The worst part about a short haircut is that you can’t throw your hair up in a pony tail. And let me tell you, right now, I have the most pathetic pony tail you ever saw…

Main Course What kind of driver are you? Courteous? Aggressive? Slow?
Typically, I’m a courteous driver, with an exceedingly heavy foot. (wink, wink)

Dessert When was the last time you had a really bad week?

Goodness, it’s been a while. I’ve had some bad days here and there, but I don’t remember the last week that was bad.

FF190

Appetizer When someone smiles at you, do you smile back?

Almost always.

Soup Describe the flooring in your home. Do you have carpet, hardwood, vinyl, a mix?

Carpeting in the master bedroom, office, dining, and living room. Tile flooring in the entry, kitchen and breakfast areas. Laminate tiling in the bathrooms. Pergo/fake wood flooring in the boys rooms and the playroom.

Salad Write a sentence with only 5 words, but all of the words have to start with the first letter of your first name.

Tanya Tells Totally True Tales.

Main Course Do you know anyone whose life has been touched by adoption?

Gosh, my life has not only been touched by adoption, but changed because of adoption. I wouldn’t be a mother if we had not adopted. If you like, you can read a our adoption story here.

Dessert Name 2 blue things.

Woody’s eyes. Tigger’s eyes.
