Four Years Later

I’ve been craving Cranberry Orange Scones, so when I made out the menu plan for the week I added them to Saturday’s column.  It’s been ages since I last made them.  I’m so glad I did – they are even better than I remember. 🙂

It’s been four years since I last posted this recipe, but it is still one of my favorites.  We  have continued in our quest for freedom from the green mermaid.   In addition to the scones, we’ve learned how to make a spectacular iced coffee.

The key to our iced coffee is toddy. We {heart} toddy very much, especially on these sweltering summer days. We still get our caffeine kick, but without the rise in body temperature.  It all started when I tried Pioneer Woman’s Cold Brew Coffee.   I went to my favorite little kitchen shop to pick up more cheesecloth.  When I told the folks there why I needed it, they talked me into trying the Toddy system.  Oh.My.Word. It is wonderful! The cold brew method gets rid of all bitterness, but it still has an incredible coffee flavor. Seriously. You have got to try it.

So this was breakfast today.  My scrumptious  iced coffee and a tasty cranberry orange scone.  It was so much better than what we used to get when we visited the green mermaid.  I’m also amazed at the difference in calories.  What I have pictured is about 350 calories – approximately 225 for the scone and 125 for the iced coffee.  While it’s not necessarily a “low calorie” meal, it is significantly better than what I would get if I were to go to S*bux.  If I were to go purchase a grande frappuccino it would be 240 calories and a scone would be 490 calories.

So this morning, I saved myself  about $8 and 400 calories! 🙂 Delicious!
